Pavlov’s Classical Conditioning

For my second post in the class webpage, I will talk about one of my favorite experiments in psychology, Pavlov’s Classical Conditioning. This is the explanation different ways of learning. Pavlov used his dogs to prove that learning to associate an unconditioned stimulus that already brings about a particular response with a new stimulus, so that the new stimulus brings about the same response. In this experiment Pavlov predicted that the dogs would salivate in response to food put in front of them but noticed that his dogs would begin to salivate whenever they heard the footsteps of his assistant who was bringing them the food. Pavlov then sought to use a bell as the stimulus of salivation. When ringing the bell, the dogs began to salivate in recognizing food was following. This proved Pavlov’s theory of involves learning to associate an unconditioned stimulus that already brings about a particular response with a new stimulus, so that the new stimulus brings about the same response.

  1. Hi Jamie, interesting post about Pavlov's Classical Conditioning. Classical Conditioning is a interesting topic because in a lot of ways we are conditioned, (an example being cellphones) and we do not even realize.
