Operant Conditioning in Disney Movies

I always liked Disney movies and I have never noticed that they used operant conditioning. In the video they use positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment. The movies that they talk about are Toy Story, Cinderella, Inside Out, and Lion King. This video made me think about other movies that use operant conditioning, and when I watch another movie I will try to notice these little things. Cinderella uses positive reinforcement by if Cinderella does her chores she gets to go to the ball. Toy Story uses negative reinforcement by how Woody removes Buzz so that Andy will continue his behavior in choosing Woody to play with. Lion King uses positive punishment by when Rafiki hits Simba on the head from stopping Simba from thinking about the past. The Mirror Test (first post)

The mirror test, also known as the mark test, is a behavioral technique developed by Gordon Gallup Jr. to see if an infant or animal possesses the ability of visual self-regulation. When a baby is sitting in front of a mirror, many people wonder if an infant pays attention to physical features or things on themselves that are not normally there. A mark or sticker is put onto the infant or child as a test to see their level of attentiveness. Based on the infant's reaction to this test, this can indicate if they have self-awareness and understand a change in their appearance. According to studies, 6-12 month-year-olds think their reflection is another baby. 13-24 month infants respond with more hesitation but are not fully aware of the reflection in the mirror. They usually notice the mark on their forehead that is drawn on them without their knowledge but may not know who they are looking at. Some infants believe the baby in the mirror is them, while others think it is another baby

Classical Conditioning and Advertisements

Ivan Pavlov's famous dog salivation experiment studied the theory of classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is a theory of psychology that shapes behavior to respond to a specific stimulus in a specific way through repeated exposure. In Pavlov's dog experiment, his dogs were classically conditioned to salivate to the sound of a ringing bell that was repeatedly paired with food. In marketing, classical conditioning is used to associate a brand with a specific feeling such as luxury. Coca-Cola has classically conditioned consumers to associate their product with feelings of satisfaction and quench. This has been done through advertisements that feature Coca-Cola in locations and situations that make you thirsty such as the beach, pool, or when playing sports (Idealogic Brand Lab).
