In chapter 2, I learned about how scientists study animal behavior. The independent variable is what the researcher changes, and the dependent variable is what they measure. A stimulus is something that affects behavior, and a response is the behavior itself. Overt behaviors are things we can see while covert behaviors are private. Researchers measure how often a behavior happens, how long it lasts, and how strong it is. They use different tools and methods to record behaviors. There are also different ways to do research and some studies just observe and while others test what happens when something is changed. The methods can help us understand why animals and people act the way that they do. My references are from the chapter slides.
