I would just like to add on to your post by explaining functional relationships, which i think are important in order to fully understand behavioral research. <br /><br />In behavioral research, the typical objective is to "discover a functional relationships between environmental events and behavior. The functional relationship is shown when the independent variable changes and the dependent variable reflects those changes.
